2 April 2006 - Inter County Foursomes Victories
Delighted to tell you that Kevin and James beat Bellingham 1 up in the morning and Bamburgh by the same score in the afternoon having been 1 down with 2 to play. The next round is against Hexham, the defending champions, at Warkworth on 9 April teeing off at 9am. Well done lads and thanks to Mansfield and Gordon for their support. A few more supporters next week would be very welcome.

1 April 2006 - Inter County Foursomes
Update - Alnwick has been closed so the first round is now at Warkworth on Sunday 2 April at the same time of 8.54am.
This year, your Club will be represented by Kevin Robson and James Curry who will play Bellingham in the first round at Alnwick GC. Two wins there will see them through to Warkworth the next day. 25 years ago, Kevin played with David Curry and is looking forward to celebrating his 25th anniversary in this season opening County competition. More news after the event.

25 March 2006 - The Captain's Drive-In
A large turn-out from the members, nice weather, drinks for everyone on the first tee, inclusion of the junior section and great support from the Competitions section, Clubhouse team, greens staff, our professional and my family ensured a great day from everyone. The 2006 season was certainly opened in style. Calmed by a tipple or two, I drove 255 yards just into the right rough which earned Jim Dobson £20, the North East Air Ambulance £49 and one of the juniors £5 for retrieving my ball! 24 March 2006 - Past Captains' Dinner
This annual event always includes the current Captain who has to hear why last year's Captain picked him. Having listened to the expected insults, I replied in kind and even managed to include many of the other 14 past Captains in attendance. All was forgiven when I found I was only 9th on the selection list - not as low as I thought - and then I was presented with a lovely engraved hip flask. A great evening and my sincere thanks to the past Captains - I'm looking forward to 2007's dinner already.

19 March 2006 - Mail On Sunday
National Team Competition We were drawn to play Tyneside away and they fielded a team of League players. I had decided to use our Archie Wilson finalists and Curry Cup winner and the team put up a tremendous performance to just lose 3-2. Eddie Hodgson and Alan Cairns halved, David Gilroy won on the last and Ant Reed and David West narrowly lost.

18 March 2006 - Annual Friendly at Westerhope
Following a discussion with the Westerhope Captain, we agreed a new format to inject some much needed life into this event which, originally, was for the League players. This time, we had 8 singles matches for the team members and 4 four balls for the officials and the new format seems to have been well received. Westerhope fielded their strongest squad against our team which included many inexperienced players. It was no surprise to lose the match but our team certainly gained valuable experience. It goes without saying that our officials team won!

6 March 2006 - NJGL AGM
We had carefully prepared a document proposing significant changes to the Junior League. This was designed to improve the League for the Juniors and to assist their Clubs in the administration required. The proposal was defeated, regardless of Mike Newton's eloquent presentation, but it will have certainly created a lot of thought.

27 February 2006 - NJGA AGM & Presentation Night
Always an excellent evening but even more so this year due to the number of awards presented to James Curry. Thanks to the generosity of many people, James is able to enter the Amateur majors he needs in an effort to gain the positive attention of the Engalnd selectors. I know that we all wish him tremendous success this year after his great 2005 and sincerely hope he manages to achieve his 2006 objectives.

10 February 2006 - Garry's Funeral
A very sad day but I'm sure the family were happy with the impressive turn-out at St. Mary Magdalene's Church. The family has kindly agreed to the addition of the Garry Lathan Memorial Trophy to our fixture list on May 6. I have also asked them if they will present the trophy at our presentation night and, at this point, they have accepted.

24 December 2005 - Christmas Eve Competition
Jim Mulholland generously provided mulled wine and mince pies on the 8th tee. Your Captain provided a little support by serving the goodies in an appropriate hat. There was even a Christmas tree on the bush in front of the tee. Our thanks to Jim for his festive gesture.

20 December 2005 - Christmas Carol Concert
To kick off the social aspect of my year, I arranged for Prudhoe Community High School's singers and musicians to provide a very special Carol Concert for the members. The event had everything from solo performers, brass band and full choir. Sadly, our member attendance was small but those that were there enjoyed a wonderful festive evening.
