2006 League Season Warm-Up Matches
Away Friendly vs Westerhope – 18 March
In the first time for some years, we returned to the format of making this match primarily for the League players. This time however, we played singles match play instead of better ball. Westerhope fielded a top side of 8 players against our squad which was weakened due to our top players away on County and other events. Not surprisingly, we lost, but it did give some less experienced players the opportunity to see what it was like to play against good League players. The two Clubs’ officials had a separate match which we managed to win. Westerhope was in excellent condition for the time of year and provided excellent after match hospitality for which we were very grateful
Inter Squad Matches - 6 April & 13 April
An excellent turn out of 14 and 16 players respectively considering the cold weather. The District and Hadrian squads were mixed and played singles match play. Another useful pre-season run out for both the experienced and less so players and also helped to build team spirit across both squads – they all play for Prudhoe after all!
District League Squad vs Tyneside at Prudhoe – 20 April
Arguably, there’s no better team to have a practice match against than the current District League champions. So, the 9 – 5 win was very satisfying and well done lads. There were some interesting results, especially matches 5 and 7 and the match scores were as follows:

Hadrian League Squad vs Tyneside at Tyneside – 26 April
Another practice game against one of the top Clubs and an excellent performance again from Prudhoe. This time we lost 8 – 6 but many of the games were very close. The match scores were as follows:
David Gilroy halved Michael Kennedy
Denny Ward lost Daniel Keogh
Geoff Ross beat John Koranteng
Daniel Shevill halved James Ward
John Anderson lost John Turner
Neil Grange beat Chris Burke
David Lloyd lost Paul Herdman
The 19th Hole
So, in just over a month, our League squads have played in a total of 37 matches. To challenge for honours in the Leagues, we need a fast start and the District League team did just that with a hard fought 10 – 2 victory over Tynemouth in the first match. The Hadrian team open their campaign at Newcastle United on Wednesday 3 May and we wish them an equally good start. Team spirit and the desire to win silverware are both strong and there is already a welcome abundance of caddies and supporters to give the teams that all important extra help. Both teams have a more than realistic chance of winning their Leagues and the whole Club wishes them well.
